Honestly I prefer rise of a ninja and broken bonds over the ninja storm games. I cannot stand the arena fighter style. I also loved clash of ninja 1 and 2 for gamecube. It was a point in time where gameplay was still an aspect developers would consider while also adding in more marketable content. By marketable content I mean things like increased character rosters, map dlc's, and stylish outfits or skins. 2 out of these 3 types of content could be utilized to add a more unique gameplay experience. Those are the maps and characters. Adding more characters with unique styles or new styles of gameplay to the games are interesting and can be fun. Characters like scarecrow (konkuros puppet) or Akamaru ( kiba's dog) are a couple examples in the clash of ninja games. Akamaru was almost a broken character since he could only be hit by low blows if he was on the ground. He was too small to be hit by normal stanced attacks. Yes this could get frustrating but it was a unique experience all the same. It made players have to improve their gameplay to beat them. Another example of a unique character gimmick is the androids ability to auto recharge ki in the dbz games. This came with the draw back of not being able to manually power up to charge your ki yourself but was still a cool gimmick. Depending on how you utilized it the gimmick could be used to your advantage. As for maps adding new maps with unique gimmicks or new styles of play is interesting too. Take for instance adding the interactable environments in mortal kombat 9 or power up challenges in the warioware map implemented in smash bros brawl. There is also maps that work in unique ways with certain characters like arbiter (halo) in the arena of judgement in the game killer instinct or solid snake using his taunt on shadow moses island in smash bros brawl. Certain maps would have to be approached differently due to the creativity of their design. An example of this would be how different call of duty's WaW zombie dlc's played. They each had their own unique style or method of surviving while sticking with a common premise of buy guns, equiptment, etc... and take out the zombies as long as you could. It also gave the player some creative freedom back then. The 3rd marketable content trait is what brought in most of the issues. Having a variety of costumes or unique character visual customization could lead to less time being spent towards actual gameplay effecting progress in how the games develope down the line. Its all in for the profit these days. An example is how many games feature lootbox systems or battle passes now. They know addicted players or fans cannot resist and will pay any price to meet their satisfaction. Gatcha games are some of the most toxic gimmicks to be added in gaming history. This is where the corporate greed sneaks its way in. They expect you to buy a game like cod or halo and then pay for lootboxs or battlepasses to earn skins or character models? Same with fighting games with unique character skins. What ever happened to unlockable content? All of the older games had us unlock new color schemes or outfits by completing certain modes or tasks. Such as maybe a unique character outfit for beating a level in campaign or achieving a certain score mark when completing a level. Maybe unlocking a new jutsu to use in a naruto game or a new super move to attach to your customised character in a dbz game. They had in game currencies and shops to utilize too. This lead to less of a strain on the players wallet and just meant more time grinding money in the game. Some of these gimmicks are still alive. Many are being abused as if the players are too stupid to notice. The sheer amount of skins they pump out for a fee is getting insane. It makes it so if you want to get them all you might be paying for more than expected when gathered total. There is like this influencing of gamers to pay for anything. Another new scheme is the means in which they will make copy characters or maps and hype them up as this new big asset. Which then takes away from what made those marketing strategies work. I think sakurai noticed this with all the smash bros backlash for having too many characters from the same franchises. This led to him putting up the polls for the smash bros utimate dlc. Getting the fan base onboard made a roar of excitement for the games image. The hype was on once again due to getting the characters they wanted in the smash bros franchise. That was a smart idea. Can you imagine the backlash from fans if daddy sakurai made the characters into a battle pass rather than a dlc pass and it wasnt even their choice of characters??! Yes he had clones of characters, but they also had a slight twist to them. From falco to fox level differences to peach and daisy level differences. Too many franchises are all about making a profit or meeting expectations rather than creating an experiece or creative new masterpiece now. This needs to change. Its absolutely ruining the industry. Money money money expectations fairness and more money. They arent marketing a vast creative game catelogue anymore they are marketing your style or mindset. You no longer are in control of how you can play these games. Its very frustrating and almost is the same feeling I get when trying out a new tcg game that I constantly have to get the new meta cards to succeed in.

I hate that poison attack the most. Can't see it all that well until you're taking damage from it already. And Fromsoft knows how crap their poison in games is so in order to actually make it a threat it had to do tick damage on top of poison build up. A clear admission they don't know how to do poison right.

I've been saying it for years. Souls games are overrated and ER was the most awful combat yet. Bloodborne is to blame for speeding up the gameplay. DS3 started the wide range and back attack stuff. Sekiro added the spammy wonky deception animations. ER combined all of it on top of input reading.

I personally dislike 2d fighters a lot but even I like guilty gear, I also like melty blood lumina(i dislike 2d's because I'm mostly shit at them). Meanwhile i do like me an arena fighter quite a bit (really like storm 4, the budokai's and xenoverses) because i am good at them (I'm like 1st or 2nd in my friend group)

I had an idea for a game about being a participant in the Steel Ball Run and how it works like Supergiant’s Pyre will you are still meant to continue even if you pass a checkpoint at last place, the only game over is death but only restarts you to past 12 hours or start of checkpoint. You have a chance of getting a Stand based on personality test during character creation ala 7th Stand User, but not guaranteed if you don’t know how to get to a roaming corpse part, otherwise learn fighting styles like Spin (and although never shown, if even possible, have Hamon for other option). It has events from the canon you can get to if you are there at the right time. It has survival mechanics as well, maintaining your horse included. Also you can forfeit the whole race, but that means starting all over again. It’s a cool game idea, I think at least, but unfortunately too ambitious…

I speak Japanese (English, French, Spanish, Italian, Chinese, German and Korean) and its true that anime is pretty cringe, not because the voices are bad but because they're overly dramatic and it sounds nothing like regular speech. Japanese people (and most east cultures) are particularly emotionally and personally reserved, even with their best friends. So stuff like "I love you" and "we're.... Friends!?" also doesn't translate well emotionally since friendship in more emotionally liberal countries is just commonplace. With that said, my main problem with anime dubs is the "loss in translation". Things are translated awkwardly and directly translating word by word doesn't give a good context. Like, "I would die for my friends" in English contest probably be more skin to "I'd gratefully give my life for them" or "I'd die if it meant saving them". Similar to how I see "あなた(anata)&きみ(kimi)" translated to my love or my dear when it's more like "babe", "hun", etc. Same thing with some words like 仲間(nakama) or comrade not translating well in terms of feeling. I'd also argue there are some really good dubs, like cowboy bebop where the translation works well and the voices are fire and fits the characters personalities and dragon ball z where the voices sound more masculine in English. (I know Gokus voice is intentionally made to sound more childish but it's too much). Exceptions aside most English dubs sound stale and weirdly phrased compared to their, albeit exaggerated, Japanese dub counterparts.
